Some days it seems like everything goes wrong. I try not to forget that even if nothing goes right today, I still have tonight. Even if it feels like all of your plans have fallen through or that nothing is going my way, I remind myself that tomorrow is another day where anything can happen – good or bad.
So, how I’m handling life and what keeps me going?!
Well, I have learned how to handle life when things don’t go as planned with some simple tips and mantras for overcoming adversity!

Things will go wrong. But you know what? That’s okay. If you know how to handle life when everything seems to go wrong, then things will ultimately work out better than expected—and hopefully for your benefit.
How I’m handling life right now is very much shaped after I started incorporating the following ideas in a difficult situation. Here are 10 tips on how to handle life when it’s too tough so that you can get through any difficult situation you may be dealing with right now.
- Change your perspective
There are many ways to get through tough times. One of them is simply to change your perspective. As Oscar Wilde once said that the secret of life is finding something you truly love and then finding a way to bring it into existence. If you start to feel overwhelmed by your situation, think about how things could be worse—this simple exercise will give you perspective on what matters most in life.
- Get enough sleep
I try to sleep for at least 6 hours even during tough times. Many people think of sleep as a time for relaxation, but it also plays an important role in helping your body and mind recover from stress. The average person needs around eight hours of sleep per night. If you’re getting less than that, take steps to get more.
- Seek help
Have you ever tried talking to others about your problems? If you’re anything like most people, the answer is probably a No. But if you want to be able to handle life when it’s too tough to handle, change this habit of keeping quiet. Seeking help is something we should all be doing more often—not just in times of trouble—and we all need someone with whom we can talk freely.
- Delay Negative Thoughts
Thoughts are powerful, but they are also fleeting. Sometimes, all it takes is a moment of calm to bring your negative thoughts into perspective. Smiling is a great way to take your mind off of things. Just thinking about smiling can lift your mood instantly, even if you have nothing to smile about. Smiling also tricks your brain into releasing positive chemicals—such as dopamine and serotonin—that improve your overall mood and make it easier for you to cope with life’s challenges.
- Be responsible for your happiness
You’re in charge of your happiness!
You can’t control other people, situations, or outcomes, but you can control how you handle these things. Don’t take your happiness for granted. And if life is simply too tough at present, remember that tomorrow is a new day with better opportunities for success and happiness!
- Set Goals That Are Easy To Achieve
Not only does setting goals help you take action, but they also keep you motivated. You’ll be more driven to achieve your goal if it feels within reach. That said, don’t set goals that are so easy you can’t help but reach them. In other words, when setting a weight loss goal of 20 pounds in three months, don’t expect to lose 10 pounds by month two and then give up in frustration because you didn’t hit your mark.
- Exercise daily
Movement and exercise can help increase energy levels and combat feelings of depression. Physical activity also boosts endorphins, which help improve your mood and is important in reducing stress and anxiety. You don’t have to be a gym rat; it’s more about finding an activity you enjoy and can stick with regularly.
- Eat right
How can you handle life when it’s too tough if you don’t have enough energy? Eating right and exercising can both work wonders for your body and mind. Even better, eating well doesn’t need to be expensive or time-consuming. Getting a few servings of fresh fruits and vegetables each day, plus whole grains and lean protein, will give you plenty of energy and boost your mood too!
- Count your blessings
How I’m handling life these days is very much based on this very basic and important tip that will change your thinking. Sometimes, focusing on what you don’t have can lead to coveting something that isn’t even yours. And while it may be difficult to enjoy what you have when you’re longing for more, try doing so anyway. You’ll feel less stress and won’t be tempted by your neighbor’s wealth.
